Our client wished to create an authentic place linked to the local community and visitors enjoying nearby Devil's Lake State Park that embraces guests with an industrial, outdoorsy, a touch of modern vibe, but not too polished.
The site is arranged with distinct kitchen and brewery buildings fronting Highway 136 by design - angled roofs facing one another in a friendly and welcoming dialogue. Parking that is purposefully set behind the buildings encourages hikers and cyclists from the nearby State Park to shed their cars and enjoy a connecting path to a courtyard.
Crafted to feel like an outdoor room, the courtyard between buildings offers opportunity for new experiences year round...whether from outdoor fire pits, games, programmed events or music. Large overhead doors from each building connect to the patio.
The restaurant is designed with a soaring, two-story vaulted ceiling and north facing upper windows to bring the outdoors in. Its roof volume drops down around the perimeter to create cozier seating areas. Focal points include a large two-sided, wood-burning fireplace and dome shaped, wood-fired oven. The fireplace creates a great nook to relax with a favorite brew in lounge style soft seating. Carefully selected finishes and furnishings create a warm and comfortable atmosphere.
The brewhouse features a full brewing setup plus a tasting room and rentable private event space. Both have views directly into the brewing area.
