Camelback Mountain Resort, located in the beautiful Poconos of Pennsylvania, is known as a winter ski and summer fun destination. With a vision to be the region's first choice for year-round recreation, ownership decided to create the Northeast's biggest indoor waterpark, along with a lodge and conference center. Aquatopia features a 125,000-SF adventure-themed, multi-level water kingdom, complete with:
Wave pool plus 12 other pools; lazy river; 13 slides; surfing simulator
Indoor/outdoor swim-through spa pool
Snack shop; 2 bars, including a swim-up bar
Its Texlon® transparent roof allows visitors to work on their tan by day and star-gaze by night. A high rise in the Poconos, the $163M 'mountain modern' Camelback Lodge is comprised of a 453-room hotel, a 20,000-SF conference center and 30,000-SF family entertainment center with multiple party rooms and snack shop, two bars including one ski-up bar with outdoor patio and gas fire pits, three restaurants and several eateries, retail shopping and a spa/fitness center. Guests can select from 24 room styles and 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom suites.
Challenges
This highly irregular-shaped building assembled on a difficult site incorporates many angled and radiused components, adding significantly to the complexity of the structure and integration with the building site and parking lot layouts.
